Qualifications & Experience

I hold a certificate of distinction for the industry-recognised Basic Proofreading course run by the Publishing Training Centre, London, and a certificate of merit for their Basic Editing course.

To develop my skills, I continue to train with the Publishing Training Centre and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.

I have a BSc with first class honours in biochemistry and molecular biology, and worked for twelve years as a biomedical scientist in NHS diagnostic laboratories in various disciplines, including biochemistry, histopathology, molecular pathology and molecular genetics.

This includes texts in UK and US English, and those with graphs, figures, tables, notes, citations and references. Larger volumes can include more complex structures and heading hierarchies. Skills I employ for all jobs, both large and small, are adhering to schedules that are often tight and following sometimes lengthy and detailed style guides, while also respecting the author’s voice.
